Safety Patrol

safety patrol at FALL CITY

Safety Patrol is a leadership opportunity for fifth-grade student volunteers at Fall City. Patrol members monitor crosswalks and walkways to keep students safe during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.

The program is led by Mrs. Stumph, who organizes schedules, training, and patrol assignments.

Students on Safety Patrol learn responsibility, teamwork, and leadership while serving their school community.

safety patrol information

Can I do Safety Patrol if I ride the bus?

Yes—but not on the days you’re scheduled for patrol duty. It’s your responsibility to arrive at school on time for your shift. If you choose to join Safety Patrol, you’ll need to arrange for a ride to school, a ride home, or have permission to walk home.

How will I know when it’s my week for Patrol duty?

A schedule will be given to you in advance for you to take home. Copies will also be:

  • With your teacher
  • Posted on the Safety Patrol equipment door
  • Posted above

What time does my shift start and end?

  • Morning (AM) shift: Arrive by 8:55 a.m. and work until 9:10 a.m.
  • Monday-Thursday Afternoon (PM) shift: Dismissed from class at 3:30 p.m.; shift ends at 3:45 p.m. Pick-up or walking permission is required after duty.
  • Friday Afternoon (PM) shift: Dismissed from class at 1:30 p.m.; shift ends at 1:45 p.m. Pick-up or walking permission is required after duty.

Where do I go when I’m on Patrol duty?

Your schedule will list your assigned area.

  • Do not ask the main office.
  • If you’re the first to arrive, wait by the equipment door until at least one other patrol member joins you—never go to your post alone.

What if I’m sick or can’t make my shift?

If you’re sick or have an appointment that prevents you from working your shift, email Mrs. Stumph as soon as possible. Both the school and your patrol team are counting on you.
⚠️ Three unexcused absences may result in removal from the patrol schedule.

Do we still go out in bad weather?

Yes! FCES students depend on you in all conditions.

  • Rain ponchos and jackets are available to help keep you dry.
  • A coat is mandatory on cold or rainy days.
  • Gloves and hats are encouraged.
